  • Non-catastrophe Managers

"The most elegant forms of managerial decisions involve problems that never have to be solved because they are prevented from occurring. They are anticipated and sidestepped.

Oddly, there is greater appreciation for a manager who can step in and cope with a problem after it happens, than one who can make it not happen. Coping is visible and dramatic. Prevention is unpopular, because it usually means challenging something that is not yet failing; it is thankless, because the only testimony of it's effectiveness is a non-event.

Even so, the deliberate non-catastrophe is one of the most impressive contributions a manager can make"

  • The Mentalist

So who watched Channel Five's new show The Mentalist last night. It is basically about a former fake psychic (aren't they all!) who now works with the police to solve crimes. He basically uses a combination of reading people's body language and something called "cold reading". There are also a few magic tricks thrown in for good measure. It's great stuff - watch it.

And if you want to learn about reading body language or cold reading, then give MINDSi a call about attending one of our courses.

    Bye for now.

  • What I learnt today!!

Well apart from a couple of great posts from Jessica (below) (and yes I did manage to High Five three people today - although the old lady at the bus stop thought I was barmby; but she wasn't as suprised as the cashier at Tescos!)), I also learnt something else - and this quote I come across best sums it up - let it be a warning to all of you who get caught up in office politics -

"In a working man's life, a tie is a noose, and inverted though it is, it will hang a man nonetheless if he is not careful".

Think about it and have a great weekend.

  • Things To Do Today

    Hi guys

Here are 5 things that I want all of you to try today.

    1. Approach and start a conversation with 5 strangers.

    2. Phone an old friend, just to see how they are.

    3. Eat something that you have never eaten before.

    4. Wear something unusual and see how many people compliment you.

    5. Give at least 3 people you know a High Five.

Why do these things? Because they will all make you feel good and it is breaking the mould by doing something unusual. Have fun, live a little and see what happens.

    Bye for now,

  • Groundhog Day

    Hey Guys

So, let me ask you a quetion please - if you could take a risk and do one thing in you life and you could be gauranteed that it would be a huge success and you would be happy forever, what would it be and why?

Now, here is a second question - so, what is stopping you from doing this and why?

Now, I meet lots of people who are frustrated with their jobs, their home life, the weather, etc, etc yet they aslo tell me that they are open minded, that they like adventure and excitement. Yet these are the very same people who have been in the same job for years, have the same circle of friends, do the same thing week in / week out, watch the same TV programmes, eat the same meals, go to the same places. Boring, Boring, Boring!! Life is for living, Life is about excitement and opening your eyes to new things. How do you know what is out there if you don't take a risk? You never know, you might just like what you find.

Bye for now and have a great, and exciting, weekend.

  • How Many Days?

    Hey Guys,

Here is a question for you and I want you to answer this really, really quickly without trying to work it out, ok? - how many days does the average Briton live for? Is it (a) tens of thousands? (b) hundreds of thousands? (c) one million or (d) one billion?

Well guess what - the answer is in fact (a).

Only 25,381 days to be precise.

25,381 days - not very much is it? 25,381 days to achieve your dreams, make friends, find your true love, have children and live life.

So what are you waiting for? Enjoy every single day, seize every possible opportunity and have fun - starting NOW!

    Have a great weekend.

  • The Magic Of Body Language

"The average person looks without seeing, listens without hearing, touches without feeling, moves without physical awareness and talks without thinking" - Leaonardo da Vinci

Did you know that an amazing 55% of the meaning of any message comes from the VISUAL body language that is displayed (ie. posture, facial expressions, gestures, position of feet).

38% of the meaning of any message comes from the non-verbal element of speech (vocal) - which means the way in which words are delivered (ie. the tone of voice, the loudness, the pace).

Whilst only 7% of the meaning of message comes from the actual words.

So, think about that for a minute. It is not what you say but how you say it. Also goes to prove that face to face contact is far more effective than email, blogs(!!!) or the telephone for getting a successful message across.

Also, by reading other's body language you can find out what they really mean behind the words. It's fascinating. Email me at info@mindsionline.com if you want to know more.

    Have a great weekend,

  • Sporting Excellence - It's All In The Mind

    Hi guys

Today I have been running a sports workshop in Glasgow for Scotland's elite young sports stars of the future. We focused on the importance of mental preparation, visualising your success, confident body language, controlled aggression, relaxation techniques and focus. We also spent time talking about Team work and how your own mood / behaviour / attitude can significantly influence your team mates and opponents in both positive and negative ways.

    It was a fantastic day.
