Well Jessica seems to be hogging this blog (blog hog!!!), so my turn now.
I have just heard that my home turn of Plymouth has got the green light to start work on a new Life Centre. This is to include an Olympic sized swimming pool, state of the art diving facilities, ice rink, basketball arena and much more.
All I can say is - ABOUT TIME!
Plymouth is full of excellent young sports people - you only need to look at our Olympians for proof (and it's not all about Tom Daley, fantastic as he is) - but our facilities are a disgrace.
Tom Daley described the diving facilities in Plymouth as the worst in the country and I have to agree. Last year my son started diving lessons and the facilities are abysmal - dirty changing rooms, broken showers, rusting and antiqauted equipment. These guys deserve so much more and at last we look as though we are now going to get them. Trouble is they won't be ready (if all goes to plan) until 2011. Sleepy old Plymouth may have left it too late. But it is progress and I am sure this will give a huge boost to the city's current and future sporting stars.
So, good news - well done Plymouth.
