  • Decisions, Descisons, Decisions....

You have to make an important decision and you don't know which one to go for, for fear of making the wrong one? Don't worry about it, just choose the one that feels most right and then commit 100% to that decision.

Over time it may not have been the right one, but then again it may have been - who knows, as no-one can predict the future. Just have no regrets as you can't change the past but by committing to a decision allows you to focus and removes the worry.

    Just go for it.

    Bye for now.

  • No Fear

If you are feeling nervous or anxious before an important event try this little visualisation technique:

Imagine putting all your fears, anxieties and negative beliefs in an imaginary black, velvet bag with a gold zip. Then zip up the bag. Then imagine getting a hot flame from a lighter and setting fire to the bag.

    There - all gone.

    Have a great day.

  • Plymouth - City of Sport

Well Jessica seems to be hogging this blog (blog hog!!!), so my turn now.

I have just heard that my home turn of Plymouth has got the green light to start work on a new Life Centre. This is to include an Olympic sized swimming pool, state of the art diving facilities, ice rink, basketball arena and much more.

All I can say is - ABOUT TIME!

Plymouth is full of excellent young sports people - you only need to look at our Olympians for proof (and it's not all about Tom Daley, fantastic as he is) - but our facilities are a disgrace.

Tom Daley described the diving facilities in Plymouth as the worst in the country and I have to agree. Last year my son started diving lessons and the facilities are abysmal - dirty changing rooms, broken showers, rusting and antiqauted equipment. These guys deserve so much more and at last we look as though we are now going to get them. Trouble is they won't be ready (if all goes to plan) until 2011. Sleepy old Plymouth may have left it too late. But it is progress and I am sure this will give a huge boost to the city's current and future sporting stars.

So, good news - well done Plymouth.

    Bye for now,

    Gavin

  • What a Week!

Well, that's this week's course over. Hard work and great fun. Great bunch of guys on the course and always interesting to hear their stories from their individual world of sport.

I think the group thoroughly enjoyed themselves and have gone away motivated and confident armed with new techniques to help them improve their sporting performance.

And the award for the Sport Person of the Week goes to.....(drum roll please).......Spencer, for his hilarious impression of Usain Bolt! What a laugh! London 2012 - watch out Usain!!

    Have a lovely weekend everyone.

  • STOP!!!

Quick thought for today, whilst I take a break from helping Jessica and our clients on the Sports Performance course here in Newcastle - The next time you find yourself in a particular situation where you hear yourself saying “I can’t do it", "It's impossible" or any negative thoughts whatsoever - STOP and think to yourself, "I can and will do this. Nothing is impossible". Never give up, just change your thinking and behaviour and watch the results.

    Bye for now.

  • Wow! What A Day!!

Fantastic! Just got back from the Sports Performance workshop that I am running. Spent the day explaining ways that sports people can remain focused during their events. Great fun! Spent the morning in the training room and the afternoon outside on the track. Wow! I am shattered. Quick shower and meet up with the guys to unwind.

Busy day ahead tomorrow, when I teach the group motivational techniques. Should be quite a day and the good news is that my MINDSi colleague, Gavin, is joining us for this one.

    Bye for now,

  • Sporting Performance

I am currently running a Sports Performance Course in Newcastle, and this week I have a selection of people - PE teachers, a football coach, a marathon runner, a rugby player and a couple of golfers.

The week so far has been great, and I thought I would share a little tip with all you sporty types out there - so here goes:

Get a pen and paper and write down twenty positive words associated with your chosen sport. Then read through this list. After doing this make this into a funny story, using the words in order. Make the story as ridiculous as possible and keep telling it to yourself.

Why, I hear you cry? Well remembering that story prior to an anxious moment in your chosen sport will lift your mood, help to get you in the zone and have a positive impact on your performance. Works every time.

    Enjoy.

  • Just Remember.......

......when you are having a bad day and everything seems to be going wrong, think about all of the people closest to you that love you. They are the most important people in the world and as long as you have them, everything is okay.

When I see clients, I always ask them to remember the happiest time of their life. 99.9% of the time it involves a loved one - and interestingly it also involves an activity that is free - for example sitting on a wind swept beach, going for a walk across the Moors, curled up in front of a roaring fire....

So remember, you don't need to spend money to be happy - all you need is love.

  • Olympic Success - Changed Your Mood?

So, the Olympics are over for another 4 years and Team GB have exceeded all expectations. It was a fabulous performance from all involved but how has it affected you?

Personally, it has given me a boost and something that this country should be proud of. It has been a disappointing summer weather wise and of course the so called "credit crunch" hasn't helped people feel good - but there is always something positive to focus on - and for me it was our Olympians. Even in the face of adversity these guys were fantastic and we should be rightly proud of them.

Oh and one other thing, at least BBC;s Sports Personality of The Year contest will be interesting this year - and the winner won't be England's world Domino champion.

    Enjoy your day.

    Gavin.
